Voices for Children Montgomery’s vision is to be the leading voice championing and advocating for every child in Montgomery County foster care. Our mission is to train and support volunteer advocates for children in Montgomery County foster care to ensure their placement in safe, permanent homes.
This mission is accomplished through the recruitment, training and on-going support and supervision of volunteers from the community who are appointed by the Juvenile Court judges to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for these children. CASA Volunteers serve as voices for one of our most vulnerable populations – abused and neglected children.
Voices for Children Montgomery, a not-for-profit organization, currently serves 185 out of 420 eligible children. Our goal is to serve ALL the children in Montgomery foster care in need of a CASA volunteer. To do this we will need to need to double our budget, adding eight people to our professional staff and recruiting an additional 50 active volunteers.
Diversity is a core value at Voices for Children Montgomery. We are committed to building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable environment for our staff, volunteers and Board of Directors members, as well as for the children and families we serve. We believe every member of our organization enriches our diversity by exposing us to a broad range of ways to understand and engage with the world, improving the quality and effectiveness of our advocacy for children in foster care.
Voices for Children Montgomery raises approximately half of its annual operating budget through private sources including foundations, community organizations, and individual and corporate donations. Click here for a list of the Board of Directors.
Being removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect is immensely traumatizing for children, with potentially life-long consequences.
- Overall 40-50% of young adults aging out of foster care are homeless within 18 months of leaving foster care.
